Edificio moderno y vanguardista, su diseño simula una flor de loto y forma conjunto con el edificio de oficinas que está enfrente. Ambos fueron diseñados por el arquitecto Toyo Ito, ganador del premio Pritzker, junto con la entrada al nuevo espacio de la Fira de Barcelona.
En el año 2010 recibió el premio como el mejor rascacielos del mundo.
El diseño de sus habitaciones, salones y zonas comunes, sigue el mismo criterio del edificio, habiendo conseguido plasmar ese espíritu moderno en el interior de hotel.
